On the 5th October we will be launching a Community Grocery Store. This will not replace Foodbank but will work alongside it and will offer a much more empowering and dignified way for people to shop as well as being affordable and accessible. The premise behind the shop will be that someone can sign up for a year membership for £5, they can then come into the Grocery twice a week to shop. Each shop will cost £3 and will give approximately £30 worth of food. Alongside this we will have a coaching team volunteering within the shop to work with the members, offering advice, signposting and really empowering them to make positive changes.
The Community Grocery will be open 9:30am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday and will be based at Central Methodist Church on the High Street. In regards to people becoming members all that they have to do is turn up and we can get them registered. There is no criteria and no proof of hardship needed as we want to ensure that it is accessible to all. I am sure you are working with many people who would benefit from this service so please pass on these details to them and encourage them to sign up.
